Local Conservatives have selected Tim Waters to stand in the forthcoming Shooters Hill ward council by-election.

Shooters Hill residents will be asked to vote in a by-election for the second time in less than a year, after the Labour leadership of Greenwich Council effectively forced one of their councillors - Ivis Williams - to resign simply for trying to stand up for local residents. The full story has been reported by The Greenwich Wire.

Tim Waters is a full-time grandfather of three and a local school governor, at Greenslade Primary School.  He was born and raised in Shooters Hill and went to Plumcroft School. Following a career in marketing and owning and running a hospitality business, Tim now wants to give back to the community.

In the forthcoming by-election - the date of which is expected to be announced this week - Tim is focusing his campaign on stopping Labour's plans to sell off Shooters Hill's community sites, forcing the Council to get serious about fixing the potholes and pavements, and opposing Labour's insidious war against the motorist.

Tim Waters, Conservative candidate for Shooters Hill ward, said: "It is a privilege to have the chance to put myself forward to serve the residents of Shooters Hill as their local councillor.

"When Labour brought forward their proposals to sell off the Equestrian Centre and Green Garth, it was only local Conservative councillors who backed our community's campaign against the plans. If elected to join them at the Town Hall, I will fight Labour's plan to sell off these vital local assets - and I will always work to protect Shrewsbury House, Barnfield Hub and all our community sites.

"I'll campaign to get the Council to finally fix the potholes and pavements.  And I will oppose the Controlled Parking Zone parking charges that Labour councillors are aiming to impose upon Shooters Hill - sneakily disguised as so-called 'Sustainable Streets'. Residents shouldn't be fooled about what Labour intends. I hope local people will lend me their votes so I can give Shooters Hill the voice it needs."

Councillor Matt Hartley, Leader of the Conservative Opposition on Greenwich Council, said: "Tim Waters is an excellent local candidate who I know will always put Shooters Hill first - something the Labour Party has completely failed to do.  The Labour leadership's appalling treatment of Ivis Williams is probably the most shocking thing I've seen in more than a decade on the Council. People in Shooters Hill are rightly asking themselves, what's the point of voting Labour if this is how the ward gets treated?

"Shooters Hill residents would be so much better served with Tim fighting their corner every day at the Town Hall. The whole Greenwich Conservative team is looking forward to getting behind his campaign to give Shooters Hill the representation that local people deserve."

The Shooters Hill by-election is expected to be announced this week.
