Conservatives propose lower council tax rise, more help for the vulnerable & action on flytipping

Conservative councillors in Greenwich are set to oppose the Labour-run Council’s planned 2.99% Council Tax rise at a meeting on Wednesday night (28th February) – instead proposing a fully-costed budget alternative that would deliver a lower council tax rise, more support for vulnerable residents and action on flytipping.

Further Conservative candidates selected for May 2018 council elections

A further 12 candidates have been selected to stand for Greenwich Conservatives in the local council elections on May 3rd. Candidates have been selected for Eltham West, Greenwich West, Peninsula and Woolwich Riverside wards, joining other candidates already selected in Eltham and Blackheath on the local Conservative team for the elections.

He has lived in the Royal Borough of Greenwich for the past 7 years and is a long-standing campaigner on local issues. He is a commuter into central London where he works advising businesses investing into the UK. In his spare time he is the trustee of a local charity which supports abuse victims.

Jim Davis has been selected to stand as a Conservative candidate in Eltham West ward in the May 2018 council elections. Jim has lived in Eltham for the last 20 years, bringing up his family locally. Both his children went to school locally and he has been involved locally in the community during that time. He has worked in financial services since the 1980s and started the campaign Disconnex against South Eastern’s rail predecessor.

Gemma Turrell has been selected to stand in Eltham West ward in the May 2018 council elections. Gemma has lived in the borough since 2010, and currently lives on Kidbrooke Park Road with her husband and two cats. Gemma works locally in administration and uses the 286/ 132 bus daily and is frustrated by the lack of local bus connections. Gemma supported the successful campaign to secure a new Kidbrooke Village to North Greenwich bus route.

Conservatives call for X161 bus route to spread Crossrail benefits

Local Conservative councillors in Greenwich are campaigning for a new ‘X161’ express bus route help tackle the borough’s north-south transport divide. The new ‘X161’ express route would run from Mottingham to Crossrail, via Eltham and Shooters Hill – aiming to spread the benefits of greater connectivity to central London to many more local residents.

‘One line, one terminal’ South Eastern rail proposal scrapped

Greenwich Conservatives have welcomed confirmation that plans to introduce ‘one line, one terminal’ on the South Eastern railway network have been scrapped. Conservative councillors in the borough have been campaigning against the proposed change since it was first suggested in the Spring, including bringing Secretary of State Chris Grayling to Eltham during the consultation process.
