New Blackheath CPZ Takes Effect

After campaigning by residents and councillor Geoff Brighty, a new Controlled Parking Zone around Kidbrooke Grove, Rochester Way and Kidbrooke Park Road has taken effect.

Over the past year, Greenwich Council has been consulting with residents of Kidbrooke Park Road and Brook Lane about introducing a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ).This is partly in response to projected parking pressure in relation to Kidbrooke Village and also in part due to complaints from residents about increased parking on the street relating to the school and commuters using Kidbrooke station.

Council Signals Start on Old Dover Road Parking Review

After a three year delay Labour-run Greenwich Council has indicated that it may at last, and after repeated lobbying from local Conservatives and traders on Old Dover Road, be about to carry out a parking review there.

Update on Eltham Parking Zone consultation

Councillors Adam Thomas and Spencer Drury met with local residents at the start of December to discuss the consultation on the creation of a new, large controlled parking zone (CPZ) across the Eltham area. The proposed area includes parts of four different wards including Eltham West and Middle Park & Sutcliffe in addition to Eltham North and Eltham South (which Spencer and Adam represent).

Conservatives Seek High Street Boost

Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson has launched a consultation on extending the time drivers are allowed the park in Stop and Shop bays. The announcement follows plans unveiled by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles to reduce parking restrictions. Both hope that by reducing parking restrictions we can boost trade for places like Eltham High Street and the Blackheath Royal Standard.

Council "Treating Local Shops and Motorists as Cashpoints"

Greenwich Council has made £2 million from parking penalties, it has been revealed, in the same week Conservative Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government seeks to help local shops with changes to Labour's parking laws that waged war on local shops and motorists.
