Woolwich Ferry upgrade

TfL say that the current ferries and landing stages are “coming to the end of their life” Boris Johnson’s TfL inherited the ferries as part of a deal the Labour Council signed with his predecessor, and their plans include replacement of the ferries and a full upgrade of facilities.

Working with TfL on A2 closure

Greenwich Conservatives have been working with Transport for London (TfL) to ensure that the  roadworks on the A2 are completed as quickly as possible. They wrote to residents across Greenwich and Charlton about the disruption and have been passing on residents’ views to Boris and the Greater London Authority.

 

Oyster not delivering pearls it promised

File 239Thousands of unwitting Londoners face another nine months of overcharges on their Oyster cards. The extra charges occur because a ‘capping’ system has not been implemented on the transport smartcard.  The ‘capping’ system was supposed to be in place by February 2004, but has not been implemented, leaving some Oyster card pre-pay users paying through the nose. Just to make matters worse, many are unaware of this system failure.

London commuters let down by Livingstone

File 185Conservatives have accused Ken Livingstone of exploiting Londoners "as his personal piggy bank" after the Mayor announced a big rise in bus and Tube fares. Rush hour bus journeys will go up 20 per cent in the New Year, and Tube passengers also face increases above the rate of inflation, raising an expected £150 million in additional revenue to help plug the huge hole in the Mayor's transport budget.

File 185Recent information has revealed that, in order to boost its finances, TfL has committed itself to an increase in fares of £81 million.

At the same time, it has emerged that TfL has provided a total of 109,946 Zone 1-6 Oyster Cards - these are free to the people receiving them (and give them free travel around London for 12 months) but are paid for by the tax-payer to the tune of £168,437,272.
