Olympics may shut local roads

Conservatives have responded to government proposals to close roads across Greenwich and Woolwich during the Olympics. The proposals cover roads around and between the shooting events in Woolwich and the equestrian competition in Greenwich Park. Leader of Greenwich Conservatives Cllr Spencer Drury responded to the formal consultation and wrote to residents across the area urging them to make their views clear too. Spencer said “ I completely oppose any proposal to close the Blackwall Tunnel during the Games. I urged the government to make much greater use of the river as a form of transport during the games especially in Woolwich, where the ferry is so close to the venue.”

The Labour Council failed to respond to the consultation in the time (as they had with police stations and hospital cuts).
