Conservatives support our local libraries

In 2008/9 Cllr Mandy Brinkhurst was part of the Libraries Committee, set up to improve ourlibraries. As a result of the Committee’s report, refurbishment plans have been made for five libraries around the borough, including New Eltham library.

Your Councillors were concerned that the plans did not mention the remaining libraries, including Coldharbour. Cllr John Hills immediately spoke with the Leader of the Council to get a guarantee that there were no plans to close Coldharbour Library. Both Cllr Hills and Brinkhurst spoke at the Labour Cabinet Meeting to welcome refurbishment plans for New Eltham but also to raise concerns for Coldharbour, stating that the library is a valuable resource to a community that is already deprived of support. David Gold, Parliamentary Candidate for Eltham, stated: “Libraries are vital for communities and I will fight to ensure Coldharbour remains open in the future
