Immigration concerns aired at public meeting

Residents packed a meeting to hear Conservative plans to bring an end to uncontrolled immigration. The Shadow Immigration Minister, Damian Green MP, was invited by David Gold, Eltham’s Conservative parliamentary candidate.

David’s survey of local people indicated this was their number one concern. The Conservatives would strictly limit

immigration and introduce a points system like the ones used in the USA or Australia. A dedicated Border Police force would have the power to stop, search, detain and prosecute the terrorists, traffickers and illegal immigrants who currently slip through the net. David promised to speak up for local people who work hard and contribute to the economy. He said: “Immigration has spun out of control. It was clear from my meeting with residents how strongly people feel about it. Our public services, housing and social security systems are under enormous strain. Only the Conservatives can be trusted to tackle the problem.”
