Victory for Old Dover Road shops

Following the campaign by Blackheath Westcombe’s Conservative Councillors, Greenwich Council decided not to propose a rent rise this year for the Old Dover Road parade of shops. Like most small, independent trader, these shops in Old Dover Road are being hit by the economic crisis and that's on top of the 40% increase in rent imposed by the Council at the last rent review. Cllrs Wilson and Brighty wrote to the council asking them to freeze the rents this year. Cllr Brighty said “I am delighted that the Council has listened to our concerns and those of the traders and local residents. The shops are an important part of our local economy and our community. This common sense decision could be a life-line to these shop keepers.”
