Farewell to the Royal Artillery

On Saturday Eltham North Councillors Dermot Poston and Spencer Drury attended an event in Woolwich to mark the end of Royal Artillery being posted in Woolwich.  The presentation of a Royal Artillery pennant to the Mayor of Greenwich at the Firepower Museum preceded a Historical Artillery display outside the Museum.

Cllr Drury said "I found it very sad to reflect that the Royal Artillery was leaving Woolwich as a result of the Labour government's cuts.  They have been a key part of the history of our borough and their almost 300 year presence will continue to be felt through the road or pub names, the monuments dotted around and the Firepower Museum."

"I hope that the Council can find some way of celebrating our links with the regiment on a regular basis."
