Local Paper Review: 30th August 2006

From the local newspapers this week:

In the News Shopper: Cllr Nigel Fletcher says he feels "gagged" after being banned from discussing a report into the impact of a supercasino at the millennium dome.  Things are returning to normal in Eltham High Street after police carried out a controlled explosion on an abandoned briefcase.  Unison is calling on council workers to join a protest over an on-going dispute about staff safety. The Police watchdog is calling on officers involved in the original Stephen Lawrence murder inquiry to come forward. Plans to transform the old GDH site have been given a cash injection of almost £190,000. Plans to open a bookmakers on Old Dover Road are one step closer to being fully approved. An Eltham banker has built a website to meet the huge demand for parking spaces in the area.

The Mercury's website has become even more Lambeth-centric than usual and is carrying no local Greenwich news this week.  The print edition is also thin on stories.
