Syed Kamall on post offices and television licences

Syed Kamall, Conservative MEP for London, has written to the local press about the end of television licence payments at local post offices

Syed (pictured right) writes, "As of this month, television licences can no longer be obtained from your local post office.
"Instead, the licences will be available from Paypoint outlets in newsagents, petrol stations and supermarkets or by phoning 0870 240 3352. If you are on the internet, you can buy a licence at www.tvlicensing.co.uk or you can find your nearest Paypoint outlet at www.paypoint.co.uk/locator.
"Around five million people in the UK use their local post office to buy their licence and almost 25,000 people in London were caught without a licence in the first half of 2006. I fear that removing yet another key local service from the post office will endanger many shops that act as a hub for our local communities and risk yet more people - especially pensioners - being caught without a valid licence".
