Labour's broken promise: Crossrail route will not include Woolwich

Despite local assurances from Labour that the new Crossrail scheme would include a branch line to Woolwich, the final decision has seen Crossrail go north of the river, leaving Abbey Wood as the only station in the Borough.

Commenting on this decision, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Eltham and Deputy Leader of the Opposition on Greenwich Council, - Cllr Spencer Drury said, "Labour should be judged on actions rather than words.  Woolwich is losing the barracks, will not have its housing repaired for at least 10 years, and is now being excluded from the Cross Rail scheme.
"The Council's claim that it could influence this Government and get the Crossrail to stop at Woolwich has been proved to be wrong.   Labour has let us down and is another Labour failure for the people of Woolwich."
