Spencer Drury campaigns to Restore our War Memorials

Cllr Spencer Drury is aiming to get hundreds of signatures on a petition which urges Greenwich council to restore and update the borough’s war memorials.

The campaign which will run until the end of October is backed by leading figures in the community and aims to finally to get the Labour–run Council to update all our Memorials across the Borough and for the council to add the names of those killed in conflicts since World War One.

Spencer whose father served in the Indian Army said “War memorials are a really important part of our heritage and I am simply gutted that the Council has failed to restore the damage to our existing war memorials prior to the WW1 centenary despite myself and others pressuring them to do so for many years.   I am determined not to let another year drift past without a proper commitment to restore and update them.   I urge you to sign our petition which I will present to council in October.”
