Greenwich Conservatives call on Greenwich Council to support the 2014 Real Poppy campaign to commemorate the centenary of WW1

Councillor John Hills has called on Greenwich Council to support the Royal British Legion and Imperial War Museum campaign to see the UK covered in real Flanders poppies during August 2014, the centenary of the start of the First World War  in which over 37 million people were killed or wounded.

Councillors John Hills and Matt Clare are already in touch with various residents associations and friends of parks groups to garner support and identify sites for poppy fields of various sizes.

John said ‘Now that all veterans of World War One have passed away it’s even more important that we commemorate them, their bravery and sacrifice. As a Borough with a rich history of links to the military I very much hope that we will play our full part in supporting the 2014 Real Poppy campaign.
