Another successful year at Greenwich University Fresher’s Fair

By Thomas Turrell President - University of Greenwich Conservatives and Deputy Chairman (Membership & Finance) of Greenwich Conservatives

On September 20th Greenwich University Conservatives held their second Fresher’s Stand at the University of Greenwich Old Naval College Campus in Greenwich West. Myself and the Society Chairman, Oliver Clark set a target to sign up 30 new members.

In order to appeal to students we focused our “selling point” on the Policy Forum within the society which is chaired by Piers Park. Last year when mentioning the Policy Forum students showed a real interest and enthusiasm for having their views represented in the next Conservative Manifesto so this year we made it our main promotion. Once again students were inspired to get involved have their say and play a role in shaping the Conservative 2015 bid for a majority! My aim now as President for the society to get the Policy Forum more active, last year we teamed up with the Lewisham CPF to hold an interested debate on the UK’s relationship with the EU, a debate which Councillor Nigel Fletcher kindly attended and did a wonderful job of pretending to be pro-European for an evening.

Sam Roger, the newly elected Chairman of South East London Conservative Future came down to join us for the whole day which was a great help, in fact we had more volunteers at the stand then we had space so Society Deputy Chairman (Membership) Andrew Credgington and Policy Forum Piers Park went rooming the University with the societies In Touch Newsletter drawing more students to the stand, while myself, Oliver and Sam held the stall in Queen Anna Court. This worked well as not only did we meet our target of 30 we beat it, recruiting more than 40 new students!
