Ex-Kidbrooke Councillors elected once more

Ex-Kidbrooke with Hornfair Conservative Councillors Andy Jennings and Graeme Coombes have been elected as Councillors once again just a year after leaving office in Greenwich.

Andy chose to stand down when he moved to St Neots in Huntingdon and Graeme moved to Bedford shortly after losing the election in Greenwich last May.  Recognising the excellent qualities of both these candidates, local Conservative Associations swiftly nominated them to stand as Councillors in May 2011.

Andy was nominated to stand in St Neots Eaton Socon for Huntingdonshire District Council and Graeme in Wilshamstead Ward for Bedford Borough Council.  Although neither seat was held by the Conservatives prior to the elections, both candidates have won comfortably with Andy gaining a 156 majority in taking the seat off the Liberal-Democrats and Graeme racking up a comfortable 539 majority over Labour when the Independent who had held the seat stepped down.

Graeme said “I was absolutely gutted to lose my seat in Greenwich last year and struggled to adapt to life in the borough without being able to challenge the incompetence of the Labour Council.  My move to Bedford to join my partner was fortuitous and I count myself both lucky and honoured to be a Councillor again.  I am looking forward to representing the residents of Wilshamstead Ward and drawing on the lessons learnt in Greenwich to make sure Bedford avoids the worst mistakes of Labour in Kidbrooke.”

Leader of Greenwich Conservatives Cllr Spencer Drury said “I am so pleased that Graeme and Andy have returned to office, even if it is elsewhere in the country.  They were wonderful Councillors for Kidbrooke with Hornfair ward and I am sure they will make a strong impression in their new wards.  Without them the chaos surrounding the rebuilding of Charlton Lido, the building of a BMX track in Hornfair Park and the threat to Hervey Road Sports Ground have not been mentioned in Council by the current Labour Kidbrooke with Hornfair Councillors.”
