Council still behind on council tax collection

Government figures published this week highlighted that the council still has some way to go in collecting council tax.  In 2009/10 the council only managed to collect 94% of the £82,655 it needed to collect, well below the national average collection rate of 97.01%.

Compared to other London boroughs, Greenwich again appears to be doing badly with the 8th worst collection rate across the 33 local authorities.

Every penny of council tax that isn’t collected means potentially higher taxes in the future.  Given that the council’s finances are so reliant on council tax revenues coming in, your Conservative councillors will be asking serious questions as to what the council is doing to improve its administration.
