Kidbrooke with Hornfair

Bit By Bit We Are Losing Our Land

Secretary of Kidbrooke with Hornfair ward Toni Hale writes "When you look a round the borough of Greenwich what do you see? Do you see a lot of open spaces in the form of farms, parks, nature reserves and wooded areas? We are surrounded by so much natural beauty in the form of such open spaces available for all of us to use. However, sometimes we fail to see what is actually on our own door step.

Hornfair Park shows Greenwich Labour’s neglect

Local residents will have noticed that the Council opened a new BMX track at Hornfair Park at the start of September; however, Greenwich Conservatives Leader Councillor Spencer Drury writes that the park tells visitors much more about what is wrong with Labour’s policy for parks around our borough.

Overcrowding to become a fact of life as Greenwich fails to plan for children’s futures

At a meeting of Greenwich Council’s Cabinet on Tuesday, Labour Councillors agreed to spend in excess of £45m patching up and installing portacabins in primary schools across the borough as they searched for extra places for primary age children.

Ex-Kidbrooke Councillors elected once more

Ex-Kidbrooke with Hornfair Conservative Councillors Andy Jennings and Graeme Coombes have been elected as Councillors once again just a year after leaving office in Greenwich.

Andy chose to stand down when he moved to St Neots in Huntingdon and Graeme moved to Bedford shortly after losing the election in Greenwich last May.  Recognising the excellent qualities of both these candidates, local Conservative Associations swiftly nominated them to stand as Councillors in May 2011.

Plans for Hornfair Lido sink without trace

The Labour Council’s plans for a £10m investment in the Charlton Lido lay in tatters this week after Greenwich Conservatives Leader Spencer Drury forced them to admit in public that the development would not go ahead as planned.

Action Needed on Traffic Rat-Run

File 534

Residents in Broad Walk, Woolacombe Road & Mayday Gardens in Kidbrooke with Hornfair ward have recently been speaking to local Conservatives about the traffic problems in the area. Local commuters complained of the jams that occur at the end of Broad Walk, where they are having difficulty in getting out on to the main road during busy periods.

Transport situation gets worse

Poor local transport services continue to hinder Kidbrooke commuters. The 89 bus service is still presenting problems to those wishing to travel to and from Blackheath and the 486 seems to take forever on its journey to North Greenwich, often more than 30 minutes.

Concerns over the Green Chain

The amount of rubbish building up along the Green Chain Link has come in for sharp criticism from Kidbrooke councillor Graeme Coombes. Graeme lives right next to the Link, which runs past Mansergh Close and along Hornfair Park and has often seen examples of random fly tipping and a general accumulation of litter.

Threat to youth club

After residents wrote to Cllr Coombes about rumours that Orchards Youth Club on the Brook Estate might close, Graeme sought answers from the responsible Cabinet member, asking her to guarantee the youth club's future. She refused to do so, giving residents cause to think that the Council may close the centre.

Lido shambles continues

After the Council's failure to agree to public pressure to reopen the Lido earlier this Summer, Cllr Graeme Coombes sought a meeting with Council Officers to clarify the situation. This meeting raised more questions than it answered, and despite the closure, no work is taking place at the Lido with no prospect of anything happening in the near future. Cllr Coombes commented: “The Labour Council's attitude to the Lido development is unbelievable, they seem totally unconcerned by the lack of activity and are complacent beyond belief.
