Deptford and Lewisham hit as Charlotte Turner closes

In September, children who previously attended the newly built Charlotte Turner School in Deptford have been faced with having to move to new schools as Greenwich Council had  taken the decision to close their one.

Many of the Greenwich children have been moved to other schools in the local area, with the largest number going to Morden Mount in Lewisham, where the Labour Council aims to keep class sizes to less than 30. Morden Mount has received notice to improve from Ofsted (one category less than Charlotte  Turner) and its buildings include a range of portacabins. Leader of Greenwich Conservatives Spencer Drury said: “Labour’s plan to close a new school in Deptford and produce overcrowding in other schools around the area seems ridiculous to me. I fear it will make the situation worse not better, especially at  Morden Mount where they are already under a lot of pressure because of previous poor Ofsted reports.”
