Conservatives keep up pressure over High Street

In August, Conservatives revealed that the Eltham Regeneration Agency (ERA) promised by Labour as part of their budget in February had still to employ a single person. The ERA was proposed as part of Labour’s budget and should have received £250,000 a year for four years.

In addition, Eltham Conservatives have established that just before the budget, a decision was taken to make the Head of the Woolwich Regeneration Agency (WRA) redundant at a cost to the taxpayer of around £50,000. The job of leading the WRA and that of leading the ERA one are similar. Leader of Greenwich Conservatives and Eltham North Councillor Spencer Drury said: “In February, I feared that the creation of an ERA was simply another gimmick to try and buy votes rather than a serious attempt to address our problems and reinvigorate our High Street. My fears appear to have been justified, but we will keep pressing the Council to deliver for Eltham.”
