Queen Mother's Tree Replaced

A tree planted on the Pond Road Estate to commemorate the Queen Mother's 100th Birthday, which unfortunately didn't survive the rigours of its SE London base, has been replaced.  Councillor Geoff Brighty, who took part in the original tree planting ceremony, was keen to see the tree replaced when he was re-elected to represent the area in May 2006.

In addition five native Black Poplar trees have been planted in a different part of the same large grass area bordering on to Pond Road replacing other trees lost over the years. Small now, the five saplings have been protected by wire cages and are large when they reach maturity.

As Geoff says  " A number of residents were concerned about the loss of trees there and I am glad that Greenwich Council responded positively to my requests for some new planting.  The new trees will make a valuable contribution to the local environment."
