Councillors attend Remembrance Sunday ceremony in Eltham

This weekend Eltham North Councillors Spencer Drury and Nigel Fletcher attended the Remembrance Sunday Ceremony in Eltham. The ceremony started with a parade down Eltham High Street led by a band of pipers. As Conservative Group Leader, Spencer (together with other local political figures) laid a wreath of poppies at the war memorial and both Councillors then attended the service in the St John the Baptist Church, where the sermon was given by the Bishop of Woolwich.

Spencer said "We owe a great debt to the men and women in our armed forces, past and present, who have made great sacrifices for our country. I do not think it is a debt we can fully repay and I feel humble each time I stand before the war memorial and read the names carved upon it. It is a great honour to be allowed to lay a wreath on behalf of the Conservative Party locally."
