David Gold helping out in Cancer Research shop

David Gold will be visiting the Cancer Research UK shop at 171 High Street, Eltham tomorrow between 10am and 5pm to get his hands dirty with the volunteers at the shop.

On the back of Cancer Research UK volunteer recruitment campaign, Eltham Shop Manager Jane Taylor, decided to invite David to participate in her volunteer recruitment drive, by inviting him down to her shop to volunteer for a couple of hours. David, whose own mother died of Breast cancer, bravely accepted the challenge.

Jane says, “David was more than happy to make an appearance when he heard the shop was running low on volunteers. He’s keen for the shop to continue its fundraising success and is making a name for himself in Eltham for displaying support towards his community. He is a particularly busy man at the moment, yet still, he insists he’ll be at our aid – joining our volunteers with the sorting of clothes generously donated to the store, bending over backwards to help our cause, he’s a true star”.

As well as volunteering in the shop, David and his team plan to hit the streets delivering 6,000 Cancer Research UK donation bags!

David adds, "I'm so pleased to be able to help out. My mother died of breast cancer, my aunt is recovering from breast cancer, my grandfather died of lung cancer and two very good friends are currently receiving treatment. Cancer Research UK needs every penny it can raise to find ways to beat this disease and great progress is being made. I'd encourage anyone with a few hours of spare time to join me. I'm really looking forward to it."

Jane continues, “The ‘buzzing’ Eltham store requires help with its daily duties to keep it open, and running smoothly. On the day, David himself will try his hand at volunteering and spur others to call in and see what it’s all about. Volunteering enables you to meet interesting people, gain experience in retail, develop skills, broaden your social circle AND help a good cause”.

If you are interested in helping out at the Eltham store for just two to four hours per week, please contact Jane on 0208 859 2171, or just pop into the shop to meet her and the rest of the team.
