Eltham youngsters told prison isn't worth it

Last week David Gold, Eltham's Parliamentary Candidate, met the Founder of the London Anti-Crime and Education Scheme (LACES) and watched him bring his innovative ‘Prison isn’t worth it’ show to the Kings Park Centre in Eltham.


Charlie Young, who spent 22 years of his life behind bars, spoke to youngsters about the devastating impact that prison has had on his life, and those of others that have been unfortunate enough to end up there.

As part of an anti-crime education project, during a two hour performance Young used a mock-up of an actual prison cell to demonstrate the frustration and agony that such a restricted space can have on the mind of its inhabitant. He also spoke of the criminal justice system and the bleak prospects faced by convicted offenders when they leave prison
