Eltham South Conservatives' community action

The push to improve our area continues in Eltham South, where councillors and local activists continued efforts to put in more plants, shrubs and trees in an attempt to smarten up the look of our streets and offset the impact of pollution.

Recent months have seen planting in the Avery Hill Estate in a joint project funded by the ward budget and charity Trees For Cities, support for the Renew New Eltham programme - part-funded by local businesses and kickstarted by local councillors and Boris Johnson as Mayor Of London -and smaller schemes such as this one, last Saturday, by flats near Mottingham Station. Here, a small team led by Councillor Matt Clare planted bulbs for next spring.

Coming weeks see smaller projects being set up with residents of Eltham Heights and the annual work on planters in the centre of New Eltham Village.

"Getting stuck in to projects like this is an important part of the work we do as councillors," says Councillor Mark Elliott. "Actions often speak louder than words and we believe it's important to be at the heart of efforts like this to improve our area."
