Zac Goldsmith chosen as Conservative Mayoral Candidate

Voters across London have chosen South London MP Zac Goldsmith as the Conservative candidate for Mayor of London after Boris Johnson announced he would not for a third term.

Zac Goldsmith has been the Conservative Member of Parliament for Richmond Park and North Kingston since 2010, where he won the seat from the Liberal Democrats. In 2015 he saw a huge increase in his majority going from about 3000 to over 20,000 - a sign of his popularity and hard work in the constituency. He is well known for his environmental work and opposition to Heathrow expansion.

Zac beat off rivals Syed Kamall, Stephen Greenhalgh and Andrew Boff in a public vote open to all Londoners who registered.

Chairman of Greenwich Conservatives Cllr Geoff Brighty said "Congratulations to Zac on his selection. I am confident he will run a strong campaign based on his positive vision for our capital. London has become a world success story under the leadership of Boris Johnson and we need to keep a Conservative Mayor in City Hall to continue this".
