Calls for full 53 bus route to be re-instated

Greenwich Conservatives have added their support to calls for the full 53 bus route to Whitehall to be re-instated by Transport for London.

Since January, the well-used 53 bus, which starts from Plumstead station, has been terminating at Lambeth North instead due to roadworks at Parliament Square - but despite the roadworks finishing, the full route has still not been re-instated.

Hundreds of residents have now signed the Charlton Society's online petition on the issue.

Leader of the Opposition Cllr Matt Hartley said: "The Charlton Society are absolutely right to highlight this problem, and we are pleased to support their campaign for the full route to be reinstated.  This was meant to be a temporary reduction in service lasting a couple of months - a permanent loss of this key route to Whitehall would be completely unacceptable."

Cllr Matt Clare, Greenwich Conservatives' Transport Spokesperson, added: "I have written to Transport for London to make the case for the full route to Whitehall to be reinstated. With the loss of Charing Cross services from Greenwich Line stations, it is even more important to keep this travel option open - particularly for the many 53 bus users on low incomes who work night shifts."
