Report back on the SE London Public Meeting

Report on the Public meeting held at Woolwich Town Hall on the November 15th

by Cllr John Hills

As Shadow Member for Health, Adults & Older People I attended with my fellow Councillor Mandy Brinkhurst a Public Meeting on the 15th November at Woolwich Town Hall to hear Matthew Kershaw newly appointed Administrator of the South East London Health Trust Speak about the future of our local hospitals Queen Mary’s Sidcup and Queen Elizabeth Woolwich.  There were 60 members of the public present and the meeting was very lively with many questions asked but not much solid information.  I asked what consultation had been carried out with older people who could face a situation of a husband or wife being in Kings or St Thomas and how they would cope with the strain of the train journey into London.  The answer was that they had been consulted and were happy it will be interesting to see if that is the view when the consultation has ended.

At the end of the day I felt that Mr Kershaw had explained the position we were currently in the proposals that he presented were a possible way forward.  However it is important for the public to give their views Consultation ends on the 13th December.  There is a further meeting on the 3rd December at Charlton Football Ground.  The consultation on the future of the Trust closes on the 13th December 2012.
