Concerns Raised over use of Blackheath

Councillor Geoff Brighty and Thomas Turrell attended the public meeting of the Blackheath Joint Working Party. At the meeting local residents voiced their concerns about the use of the heath after it emerged that Lewisham Council have given permission to two large festivals on the heath next year, both expecting to attract up to 15,000 people a day.

All The Fun of the Fair ? Showman's Guild and Greenwich Council set for return to Blackheath

The Showman's Guild are looking to return to Blackheath with their three times a year funfair on Blackheath's Circus Field. Traditionally a fair has operated on this area close to the Park at the Easter, Whitsun/Spring and August Bank Holiday weekends but not since 2011. Circus Field was used extensively during the 2012 Olympics and the ground has had to be reinstated and allowed to recover since then.

Supporting Small Business Saturday

2014 Blackheath Westcombe Conservative Candidate Thomas Turrell has been out promoting Small Business Saturday, which will take place on the 7th December, on the Royal Standard and has been speaking with local traders there. This weekend is the busiest shopping weekend of the year with many shoppers heading out to do their Christmas shopping? Small Business Saturday has already proven to be hugely successful in America.

Stop and Shop Bay Extension Welcomed

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced that drivers will now have an extra ten minutes to park in red route parking bays taking the time allowed to park from 20 minutes to 30 minutes.

Conservatives Seek High Street Boost

Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson has launched a consultation on extending the time drivers are allowed the park in Stop and Shop bays. The announcement follows plans unveiled by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles to reduce parking restrictions. Both hope that by reducing parking restrictions we can boost trade for places like Eltham High Street and the Blackheath Royal Standard.

Labour put party politics before defending Woolwich Fire Station

At the late March Council meeting the Labour Party rejected Conservative attempts to reach a cross-party agreement on opposing the closure of Woolwich Fire Station in favour of political point-scoring. Conservatives fear that residents of the borough will suffer as a result of this poor decision making and irresponsible behaviour.

Improvements to Greenwich Park

During 14 Jan to 28 March Royal Greenwich Park will see a number of refurbishment works which will also result in the park being closed to traffic during this time.
