Cllr Dermot Poston was first elected to Greenwich Council in 1968. This year, he is retiring from the Council and Eltham Conservatives are holding a small party to celebrate his contribution to our area over the years.

Conservatives Call Time on ‘Greenwich Time’

Greenwich Conservatives have welcomed a new law which has now come into force and is expected to stop tax-payer funded newspapers such as ‘Greenwich Time’, the weekly publication which the Labour Council have been distributing to households across the Borough.

Conservatives secure part-time travel card for commuters

The London Assembly Conservative group have secured a promise from Mayor of London Boris Johnson to introduce a part-time travelcard by January 2015.

All The Fun of the Fair ? Showman's Guild and Greenwich Council set for return to Blackheath

The Showman's Guild are looking to return to Blackheath with their three times a year funfair on Blackheath's Circus Field. Traditionally a fair has operated on this area close to the Park at the Easter, Whitsun/Spring and August Bank Holiday weekends but not since 2011. Circus Field was used extensively during the 2012 Olympics and the ground has had to be reinstated and allowed to recover since then.

Council leaves future for war memorials open to question

A motion from Conservative Councillors led by Cllr Spencer Drury and Cllr John Hillshas been ignored as Labour-run Greenwich Council has refused to publish or prepare a timetable for the restoration of the borough’s war memorials despite the Centenary of World War One starting in 2014.

Survey reveals high level of mould and damp in council housing

A Conservative survey of council flats in Eltham North ward has revealed that over half of Council tower block flats are suffering from mould as a result of poor maintenance.

Council destroying High Streets while increasing residents parking profits

Data published today by independent charity the RAC Foundation has revealed that Greenwich Council has again increased its parking profits paid by residents this year. For the last three years parking charges and the cost of permits have more than doubled or trebled, and in some places charges in Eltham have gone up by 280%. In that time the council's profits from parking have soared by over 90%.

Conservatives urge residents to support an ‘Urgent Care Centre’ in Eltham

Despite having the idea of including an “Urgent Care Centre” (or Minor Injuries Unit) in the new Eltham Community Hospital rejected by the Labour Council in July this year, Conservatives are urging residents to respond to the “Right Care, First Time” consultation where the option is being actively considered.

Update on Eltham Parking Zone consultation

Councillors Adam Thomas and Spencer Drury met with local residents at the start of December to discuss the consultation on the creation of a new, large controlled parking zone (CPZ) across the Eltham area. The proposed area includes parts of four different wards including Eltham West and Middle Park & Sutcliffe in addition to Eltham North and Eltham South (which Spencer and Adam represent).

Small Business Saturday Raised £468 million

2014 Conservative Candidate for Blackheath Westcombe Thomas Turrell welcomes the news that Small Business Saturday UK raised £468 million for small businesses across the UK. An Average of £33 per head.
