Confusion reigned this month as Greenwich Council started a consultation about the demolition of the Grove Market Place on Eltham High Street and then gave permission for the developer to go ahead before residents had been heard.
Nuala was elected in 2014 as a councillor for Eltham South ward. She has worked as a senior manager in the charity and training sectors for over 25 years and now works as a training consultant working with schools and separately as an independent celebrant offering alternatives to traditional ceremonies such as funerals, weddings, civil partnerships and baby namings.
Over the last few weeks Eltham South Councillor Matt Clare, Eltham South Council Candidates Mark Elliott and Nuala Geary and a few local residents have been assiduously collecting signatures for a petition to the Greater London Assembly (GLA) urging for the rapid implementation of our CPZ as they [the GLA] adjudicate on the matter following an objection by Bexley Council.
Mark was elected in 2014 and represents Eltham South ward. He is a journalist, has been Managing Director of Time Out and currently runs a company that publishes magazines for London's booming tourism sector. His first book is to be released in 2017. He is currently Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group in Greenwich.
Conservatives have criticised a £50,000 Council ad campaign to promote tourism in Greenwich Borough, after it ignored the historic attractions of Eltham. A report on the campaign was considered at the Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
At a Council meeting this week, Councillors discussed plans for development on the Greenwich Peninsula, Woolwich and in Charlton, but were left asking ‘what went wrong’ in Eltham.
Eltham Conservatives today welcomed the announcement that the Dispersal Zone for Eltham High Street has been renewed within the six month deadline. This is a much improved situation from Autumn 2012 where the Labour Council’s incompetence left the High Street without a zone for two weeks until Conservative Councillor’s protests spurred them into action.
