Elizabeth Truss

Elizabeth was elected to Greenwich Council in 2006, representing Eltham South ward, and stood down in 2010. In May 2010 Elizabeth became the MP for South West Norfolk. She is currently an Education Minister.

Peter King

Peter was first elected to Greenwich Council in 1978 but stood down from the Council in 2010.  Peter was the only ever Councillor for Palace Ward in Eltham and had a long and distinguished career as Leader of the Opposition from the 1980s through to 2004.  Peter returned to the front bench as Deputy Leader from 2006 to 2009.

Peter was the Chairman of the Greenwich Conservative Federation until May 2011 and has lost none of his ability to provoke argument over the years including taking a firmly pro-AV stance during the recent referendum.

Nigel Fletcher

Nigel was first elected to Greenwich Council in 2005 and served until 2014, including as Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Cabinet Member for Culture and the Olympics. He is the Founder of the Centre for Opposition Studies and is currently completing a PhD thesis.

Success for Avery Hill Park

Local Conservatives welcomed the news that Avery Hill Park was successful in winning £400,000 of funding from the Mayor of London Boris Johnson. The money will go towards the improvement of local facilities, and the historic features of the park as well as new provision for young people to enjoy this wonderful asset within our local community.

Conservatives making a difference

New Conservative Action Team for Eltham South

Conservative councillors representing residents in Eltham South have been joined by new Action Team members, Adam Thomas and Matt Clare, to help them fight for residents’ interests on the council. Matt lives locally in Tarnwood Park and is a Director of the residents’ association.

McDonalds Application for late night opening withdrawn

Eltham North Councillors were informed today that McDonalds have chosen to withdraw their application to open until 3am each week day and 5am at the weekends.  Eltham North Cllr Spencer Drury, who collected a petition of 250 signatures against the longer opening hours and presented it to a full Council meeting at the end of March said:
