Overcrowding to become a fact of life as Greenwich fails to plan for children’s futures

At a meeting of Greenwich Council’s Cabinet on Tuesday, Labour Councillors agreed to spend in excess of £45m patching up and installing portacabins in primary schools across the borough as they searched for extra places for primary age children.

 

Police focus to shift from gangs to serious youth crime

At Tuesday’s Safer and Stronger Community meeting in the Woolwich Town Hall Councillors received a report from the Violent and Organised Crime Unit (VOCU) which is funded by the Council but part of the Greenwich Police force.  Conservatives have backed the VOCU in the Council’s budget and were pleased to hear about its success to date.

 

Conservatives put young people on the agenda

Greenwich Conservatives have succeeded in getting the Council to investigate important health and education issues affecting children in the Borough.  At a meeting this week, the Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee agreed to two Conservative councillors' proposals for issues to scrutinize in the coming year.

Conservatives confirm results of parking survey

Eltham North Councillor Spencer Drury has established the results of the consultation on extending the Eltham Station CPZ.  The results are shown below.

At the Overview and Scrutiny meeting on Thursday evening (10th March), Conservative Councillors welcomed the end to many of the targets which the previous Labour government had set to measure the efficiency of Councils.

Getting a fair deal for Eltham residents on Highways

Conservative councillors were out in force last week to protect the interest of Eltham residents at the council’s Highways Committee.

Greenwich Council rapped over consultant's bills

In Cabinet papers published last week, the District Auditor agreed that payments to a consultant had broken European Union laws.  Sherlock Consultancy is run by Peter Sherlock and has helped the Council manage a range of building projects including the Eltham Centre and Charlton School.

Report back on January's Council Meeting

The January Council meeting felt a lot like the calm before the storm as the proposed Council budget is bought before members in the next month (or so, as the date keeps being shifted).  There were serious items on the agenda and some which were relatively uncontroversial.
