‘Vague’ Parking Strategy aims to raise £2m

After months of waiting Greenwich Council has finally chosen to publish a ‘Parking Strategy’ which is so vague that it gives residents and businesses no reassurance at all that the Labour-run Council will not introduce parking charges on High Streets or residential roads at will.

Councillor John Hills has called on Greenwich Council to support the Royal British Legion and Imperial War Museum campaign to see the UK covered in real Flanders poppies during August 2014, the centenary of the start of the First World War in which over 37 million people were killed or wounded.

Spencer is currently asking the Council to make a formal commitment to use its discretionary powers to exempt residents who have had to leave their homes from Council Tax for the period of their absence.

Conservative pressure pays off as petrol station improvements begin

Following a year of pressure from Greenwich Conservative Council Leader Cllr Spencer Drury, steps are finally being taken to improve the traffic flow into the Tesco/Esso petrol station at Clifton’s roundabout; the junction of Sidcup Road and Westhorne Avenue. The Tesco/Esso management closed the petrol station for a few days last week to implement a new system of signing and road marking.

Survey reveals high level of mould and damp in council housing

A Conservative survey of council flats in Eltham North ward has revealed that over half of Council tower block flats are suffering from mould as a result of poor maintenance.

Council destroying High Streets while increasing residents parking profits

Data published today by independent charity the RAC Foundation has revealed that Greenwich Council has again increased its parking profits paid by residents this year. For the last three years parking charges and the cost of permits have more than doubled or trebled, and in some places charges in Eltham have gone up by 280%. In that time the council's profits from parking have soared by over 90%.
